NATIONAL CHAIR OF THE NATIONAL
CONGRESS OF BLACK WOMEN SPEAKS AND MARCHES FOR JOBS, JUSTICE AND STATEHOOD FOR
THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
October 15, 2011
Washington, DC – Dr. E. Faye Williams, National Chair of the National
Congress of Black Women was among the featured speakers for the DC Statehood Rally
on Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Washington, DC as people from across the world
gathered to dedicate the memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She was also a speaker at the Jobs and
Justice Rally sponsored by Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network at
the Sylvan Theater on the National Mall.
Dr. Williams said, “It is such an honor to be a part of this very
special weekend celebration of the dedication of the Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. memorial. Participation in the
festivities and rallies is great, but what is more important is what we do when
we return to our communities to make life better for the masses of our people.
Everybody can do something, and it is our duty to act in any small way
we can. What we do could be as simple as
voting in every election, getting somebody else registered to vote who may never have
voted before, mentoring a young person, making an effort to wipe out meanness
of spirit by being more lovable in whatever we do—and so much more. Let us use this special occasion when we
honor Dr. King’s work to do something different that makes a positive
difference”.
